Chinese Water Dragon Rehoming Package

REHOMING REQUIREMENTS

Chinese Water Dragon

Chinese Water Dragons originate from Thailand, southern China, and the surrounding area. They can be handled, though tend to be skittish and will need taming, and feed on both vegetation and live insects. Although they are moderate in body size their tail adds a lot of length and they are very active, so require a large, arboreal enclosure that they can run around and actively climb in.

Keeping Chinese Water Dragon is difficult, but their beautiful colors and exciting behavior make them a popular choice among reptile enthusiasts. Water Dragon lizards require large enclosures, controlled temperature, hydration, and constant attention to their diet.

Chinese Water Dragon Handling

Water Dragons require patience and lots of work to get them to a handleable place.

Correct handling technique will help you establish trust and bond with your Chinese Water Dragon. You will need to learn how to correctly hold an Chinese Water Dragon, when to handle it and how to approach it for handling.

We offer handling sessions to help people gain confidence before adopting the reptiles. Ask a staff member for more information.
Handle Chinese Water Dragons with care and respect, avoiding sudden movements or loud noises. Chinese water dragons can snap their tails as a defense mechanism and need time to adjust to new environments and establish trust with their owners.

Regular interaction and socialisation can help them become more comfortable with human handling.

Handling Gloves
Handling your Lizard should be fun and rewarding. But sometimes, your lizard can try to bite or scratch you (can be accidentally, too) when handling. It might be a good idea to get thick gloves for handling your lizard, to help you feel more confident when handling and taming your lizard.

Chinese Water Dragon Diet

Chinese Water Dragons should be fed on an insect-based diet containing things like
Calciworms, waxworms, locust, cockroaches and occasionally pinkie mice. A small amount of
fruit and vegetation can be offered, but it should only make up about 10% of their diet.
We always include a large sized water bowl in the enclosure. You might never see the lizard
drink from it but it should be there as a back-up. You might notice the lizard use it for bathing,
this is usually to cool down or to help loosen it’s shedding skin. Both the food dish and water
bowl should be kept on the cool side of the enclosure to prevent it from evaporating too
quickly.
There are also diets such as Arcadia Reptiles Insectigold
which is a great addition to your dragon’s diet.
You also want to ensure your feeder bugs have been gut
loaded (fed) before offering to your reptile. We use Arcadia
